About this tool
A domain whois lookup returns the public registration record for any domain name — who registered it, through which registrar, when it was created, when it expires, and which nameservers it uses. This is the same data registries publish so that network operators and rights holders can trace ownership and contact the right party.
Our tool follows the IANA referral chain automatically. For thin TLDs like .com and .net, we query the registry first and then fetch the full record from the registrar's whois server so you get dates, status codes, and nameservers in one place. Country-code TLDs (.de, .ua, .pl, .fr) are served from their national registries directly.
When to use this tool
- Before buying a domain. Check the current owner and expiry to plan a contact attempt or backorder.
- Diagnosing a broken site. Confirm whether a domain has expired, moved registrars, or switched nameservers.
- Reporting abuse. Find the registrar's abuse contact for domains used in phishing or malware campaigns.
- IDN verification. Enter a Cyrillic or other non-ASCII domain — we convert to punycode and fetch the registry record for you.
What the status codes mean
EPP status codes likeclientTransferProhibited or serverHold tell you what operations are currently allowed on the domain. "Client" codes are set by the registrar; "server" codes by the registry. pendingDelete means the domain is in its grace period and will drop soon; ok means the domain is active with no restrictions.

What is domain whois?
Whois is a public directory operated by domain registries and registrars. It lists who registered a given domain, when, through which company, and which nameservers it points to. Running a whois query is free and does not require an account — anyone can look up any registered domain.
Why do I see "REDACTED FOR PRIVACY" instead of a person's name?
Since GDPR (2018), most registrars hide personal registrant details from public whois by default. Technical data — registrar, dates, nameservers, status — remains public. To reach the owner, use the registrar's abuse contact or the anonymized forwarding email when one is published.
Does this support IDN (non-ASCII) domains?
Yes. Enter an internationalized name like мій-домен.укр and the tool converts it to its punycode form (xn--…) before querying the registry. Both the original and the ASCII form are shown in the result.
How accurate are the expiration dates?
The dates come directly from the registry, so they are authoritative. For thin-whois TLDs we fetch two records — the registry shows the raw expiry, the registrar may show a slightly different renewal date depending on billing. We cache responses for six hours to respect rate limits.
Can I look up country-code TLDs like .ua, .de, .pl?
Yes. The tool follows IANA's referral chain, so it routes queries to the correct national registry automatically. Some ccTLDs return a more minimal record than gTLDs (especially .de and .be), but the core fields — registrar, nameservers, and status — are almost always available.
